The list of unflattering comparisons is long. The second- and third-generation ICEs are better designed and lighter than those that crashed at Eschede. Germany has not invested as much in building high-speed tracks, yet German Railways tries to keep up with French speeds. The French cut straight through the countryside. Geoff and I recently attended a talk at Robertson station where Bob Bunting, a rail guard who was involved in the Robertson train disaster, re-lived his experience. He was part of the crew of the train standing stationary at the station. Fortunately he and the driver were in the signal box changing the staff at the time of the flaming explosion as the upcoming freight train rammed full speed into his train on the track right next to them.

Unfortunately the fireman, still in the cabin of the stationary train, was not so lucky, dying later as a result of severe burns. The guard also spoke on radio 2 ST. An added bonus is that the factory backs onto the Illawarra Mountain Railway!

Inside the old cheese factory it was pretty much like the inside of an old cheese factory. The walls were painted, the original power cables and piping left in situ and the floor was still concrete.

Overall a bit dim inside with scattered furniture that made the area look a little empty. The cheese factory has not attempted an architectural, or artistic, makeover such as we experienced at the Old Milk Factory gallery in Bowral which had made something very different of the original structure.

Geoff Inside this re-purposed factory there has been few changes and I enjoyed the simple industrial feel of the place along with the great view of the railway that runs alongside of the cafe.
